Inger Wilkerson

Meet our member of the month, Inger Wilkerson, the blogger behind Art of Natural Living.

What was your original motivation for your blog? What keeps you motivated?

“I have belonged to CSAs for over 20 years and for even longer I’ve ‘counted my veggies/fruits’ to make sure I get at least 5/day. Back when I was an IT Director, word got out that I was managing a career, 3 active kids and still managed to cook and eat healthy at home. After a while people who were interested in moving to a better diet started asking to meet for coffee. I should write about healthy food, I thought…”

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“I love seafood, so any meal would have to include that. Perhaps a nice cioppino, so I could get in a variety of seafood.”

What has been your biggest cooking disaster?

“My biggest cooking disaster took place on a Christmas Eve years ago. I host my extended family and had two herb crusted tenderloins in Pyrex pans in the oven. I was chatting in the kitchen when I heard a loud crack. One of the pans had broken and the juices were running through the oven.

My sister, who is a registered dietitian and calm in any food situation, helped me wash it off, I re-herbed it and everything went into the other oven inside of a metal pan (luckily I have a double oven). Dinner saved.”

What’s your ultimate holiday cookie?

“I really love beautifully decorated cookies. But you won’t see them in my blog, because I can’t draw a straight line.”

Favorite holiday tradition?

“I host a formal Christmas Eve every year. China place settings (I bought extra china on ebay, though the kids still eat on kitchen dishes), lots of candles—and I test new recipes the whole month.”
