Meet our member of the moth, Abby Bayatpour, the blogger behind Heart of a Baker
What was your original motivation for your blog? What keeps you motivated?
“Originally, I wanted to share vegan recipes with my mom and dad back home! My dad had made the decision to go plant based/vegan not long before I moved and as I made my way through figuring out vegan desserts, I needed an easy way to share them with him. I had also been thinking about starting a food blog for YEARS, so it was about time! To stay motivated, I usually need to turn off/take a break for one full day in a week (usually Sundays) and I don’t like to play the comparison game. Also, connecting with other bloggers has been a huge motivation for me, knowing that everyone struggles with the same issues, no matter where you are in your blogging journey.”
“Mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, and roasted brussels sprouts! I know there isn’t really a ‘main’ component to this meal, but it’s everything I love! Crispy roasted veggies, mashed potatoes (my favorite food, always and forever) and carbs are just always a must for me.”
What has been your biggest cooking disaster?
“Oh man, I’ve had so many! Baking is an entirely different animal, especially since it’s so precise! I’ve been trying to conquer a creamy vegan peach pie for years now, to rival a pie that one of my favorite restaurants in Milwaukee makes. Each time there has been something majorly wrong with it, from sticking entirely to the pie pan to the filling coming out all wrong (too runny or to hard), it’s one that I’m determined to crack when peaches come back into season this year.”
March marks the beginning of spring. What are you most excited for in the new season?
“I think this piggybacks off of my favorite thing about spring, but outside or at home! I love cooking at home, but when we do go out I always want to take advantage of the sunny weather, if it’s around. I love a good, fancy meal every once in a while, but give me a plate of tacos or a round of appetizers on a patio any day.”
