White Sugar Cut-Out Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar (called sour milk)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • About 4 cups flour
– In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.
– In a glass measuring cup, measure out the milk, add in the vinegar and the baking soda. Using a fork, bring the milk to a froth, allowing it to overflow into the mixing bowl, dump out the remains.
– Add eggs to the mixing bowl and mix.
– Next add the baking powder, nutmeg and 3 cups of flour, slowly combine, and add more flour a little at a time until nearly all 4 c. are in. (I go a little shy, or the cookies turn out crispy).
– Cover the dough and refrigerate at least 2 hours, 12 is better.
 – Flour surface and roll out dough in small batches, to 1/2 inch thickness.
– Cut in desired shapes, and using a spatula, move to a cookie sheet.
– Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
